ANNUAL 1890'S DAYS JAMBOREE FIDDLE COMPETITION

JUDGING CRITERIA

There will be 100 points awarded per tune per judge. These points are divided equally into 5 scoring categories. There will be 3 judges scoring 100 points on each song, so each song could be worth 300 total points. The scores will be tabulated and added together to arrive at the contestants total score. In the event of a tie, the contestants will be asked to come back and play one tune of choice.

Rhythm and Timing - 20 points: The judges will listen for even, consistent
rhythm. Rushing, dragging, or unevenness in the performance will result in lost
points.

good licks. Repetitious performance, for instance, using the same licks over and
over in the same song will result in lost points.

performance styles in each category. Use of variations that make the base tune
unclear will result in lost points.

put into their performance. Flat, mechanical, unfeeling performances will result in
lost points.

Execution - 20 Points: The judges will listen for tone quality, clarity, and general
command of the instrument. Bad tone and muffled notes will result in lost points.
